First of all one have to have a Macintosh with 68030-processor or better. In some cases a PowerPC is necessary.
Netscape (lowest version 3) is the only web browser that can be recommended.
A fairly good soft-synthesizer is provided for free from Apple. It is called QuickTime Musical Instruments and is an extension to the system extension QuickTime. It gives in principle the same sound as a simpler Roland synthesizer, though without reverb and chorus. At the time of writing version 2.5 is available and no older versions should be used.
ARNOLD'S MIDIplugin seems to have a better function then Crescendo (which perhaps is most common) on Macintosh. It can also play KARAOKE, which it seems like no other plugin can do.
Yamaha MIDPLUG has a built-in synthesizer which is more advanced then QuickTime Musical Instruments. It adds a general reverberation which mostly gives a positive experience but which also can be annoying sometimes. It has a certain unsteadiness in it's function (the internal synth will not always initialize), it require a lot of RAM and it may not function at all Macintosh models.
As stand alone karaoke player there are Arnold's Midi Player (shareware).
Always when using karaoke on Macintosh there is a problem with the swedish characters (åäö). There are karaoke files on LMACS of the tunes which has swedish lyrics in a special manipulated version which gives fairly good lyrics on the screen. Opinions about this matter is gladly received, just as suggestions of other solutions.
Here is another solution to the problem with swedish karaoke: A special font which gives DOS formated text the swedish characters å, ä and ö instead of strange special signs, download DosMacSE.
